Man charged over supermarket thefts in Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham

A 21-year-old man is to appear in court charged in connection with thefts from supermarkets in Faversham, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

The accused from Ospringe near Faversham was charged on Friday 2 August 2019 with stealing alcohol from the Co-op in Oxford Street, Whitstable on 15 June 2019; stealing alcohol from the Co-op in Faversham on 28 June; stealing alcohol and food from the Co-op in Faversham on 29 June; stealing alcohol from Morrisons in Faversham on 11 July; and stealing alcohol and a sandwich from Tesco in Herne Bay on 22 June.

He was also charged with two further charges of assault, and also obstructing a police officer in the execution of duty.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court via virtual link on Friday 2 August where he was remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15 August.
