On Monday 4th October we had another interesting talk given by Graham Johnson, entitled ‘Kent – Another Unusual View’ which, followed on from a talk he gave us a couple of seasons ago.

This was an illustrated presentation  showing us various interesting places in Kent which have a tale to tell – many historical and some humorous!  We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening  and probably gave us ideas of places to visit in Kent, with our cameras in tow!

We had our first Practical evening of the season on 7th, where members can practice with the clubs Studio Lighting, and where we had four models, so we were spoilt for choice!

On 9th October the Isle of Thanet Photographic Society hosted this years Kent County Photographic Associations Handley Shield and Carter Cup Competition for all Kent based Camera Clubs at Broadstairs. The result was  Ashford Camera Club won the Handley Shield Trophy, and we came 9th out of 30 clubs – so we were very pleased with the result.  one of our members, Betty Boreham, gained a merit award for her slide ‘Shiny Surfaces’. Congratulations Betty.  The Carter Cup is a competition for individual members of clubs for  monochrome slides and Mr Mervyn Taylor from Sevenoaks won with ‘Ice Patterns’.

Monday 18th October will be our first Print Competition of the season – and from the report from our Competition Secretary, we have a record number of prints to show, 72 in three categories (novice, intermediate and advanced),  this obviously being the result of the increase in digital workers.  This will therefore be quite a long and hard working evening for our judge, Sue Flood, just hope she’s prepared !!!!!

On 23rd October we have an outing to Brugge, which should be a good day out, weather permitting.
