BEAT THE CHEATS

Kent County Council Trading Standards is urging people who have received shoddy goods and services to use its new website link: "Beat the Cheats".

Although it is estimated that rogue tradesmen con a million people out of £1 billion a year, a recent survey by Which? stated that one in five people who have cause for complaint, do not complain - either because they do not think it would make a difference or do not have the time.

However, as over half of UK households now have a computer, KCC Trading Standards is encouraging these 'reluctant complainers' to report the con on-line. Although people are asked to give as much information as possible, they can do so anonymously.

Lead Member Paulina Stockell said: "Rogue traders are bad for both consumers and legitimate businesses and our officers are working hard to keep on top of the cowboys. However, we need people to report their activities and hope the 'Beat the Cheats' link will provide us with more intelligence".

The 'Beat the Cheats' link is highlighted on the KCC Trading Standards webpage. Alternatively, consumers can telephone the helpline on: 08457 585 497.
