Villagers have celebrated the first birthday of Capel-le-Ferne farmers' market.

Shoppers enjoyed a slice of birthday cake made by stallholder Pat Goodall and were able to choose from a variety of fresh produce. This included fresh eggs, cheese, Romney Lamb and other quality meats, home-baked bread and cakes, flowers, art and crafts, jewellery and knitted goods.

Kent County Council's Produced in Kent initiative is supporting farmers' markets countywide. Project Manager Rob Weaver, who attended the birthday party, said: "This is a particularly important farmers' market as it is specially designed for the community around Capel-le-Ferne.

"It was highly successful and it was good to see how it has progressed. It was also a delight to see such enthusiasm among the organisers."
