The Hawkinge Partnership will be doing things in a big way when it invites local people to see what changes could help shape their village’s future.

A 13 feet high giant, created by Strange Cargo, will be helping to attract villagers to the partnership’s ‘Taking Part…Making Changes’ event at the village hall on Thursday 27 January.

“We’ve got big plans for Hawkinge and the giant seemed a very appropriate guest to invite, said Jan Doyle, Chairman of the Hawkinge Partnership.

The partnership’s ‘Taking Part…Making Changes’ event aims to show how the changes local people have said they want can take place and how everyone can become involved in shaping Hawkinge’s future.

“During 2004 we organised consultation events - like the summer fun day - and more than 500 people told us what they would like to see in Hawkinge, said Jan.

“This included better facilities, improved services, more community events, a community where people know their neighbours and a safe and pleasant environment.

Deirdre Ferguson, Hawkinge Neighbourhood Manager, said the ‘Taking Part…Making Changes’ event would give people the chance to look at the partnership’s work plan for the year - which has just been approved by the Office of Deputy Prime Minister - meet members of the Hawkinge Neighbourhood Management Team and partnership board, and see how they can get involved in village events and plans.

“Everyone is welcome to call in to the village hall any time between 2.30pm and 8.00pm, said Deirdre.
