The Scottish power-lifter achieved gold and a personal best by lifting 190kg. He was also captain of the power lifting team at the Games held in Orlando earlier this year.

Micky was on hand to speak with employees about strength and motivation, as well as challenging the station’s own weightlifting champion, Jen Tibbenham to a strength test.

He said: “It’s been really great to meet some of the employees here and visit a nuclear power station. On behalf of all the athletes supported by ParalympicsGB we’re really grateful for EDF Energy’s support and for raising awareness of the charity.”

Raised nearly £1 million

EDF Energy’s charity partnership with Marie Curie raised nearly £1 million and finished at the end of April 2016. Employees across EDF Energy will be able to vote for a new charity partner later this year.

Until then, the company will be supporting the British Paralympic Association’s campaign, Supercharge ParalympicsGB, raising funds to make sure that British athletes have the best possible support to compete at Rio 2016 and beyond.

Station director Martin Pearson said: “We hold this event to engage staff in all kinds of areas from company programmes such as smart metering to diversity and inclusion groups such as the women’s network. It was brilliant that we were joined by the inspirational Micky this year who has worked hard to overcome the difficulties he has faced. I hope his story inspires many others.”
