A 'careless' driver who crashed his car in Thanet causing serious injuries and damage to property is starting a jail sentence.

25-year-old Daniel John Wisdom  from Minster, Ramsgate, admitted charges of careless driving, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and no MOT at Margate Magistrates.

He was sentenced on Thursday 4 May to 120 days in prison.

The collision occurred at 1.45am on Saturday 17 September 2016 on Tothill Street and the junction with High Street, Minster, when the grey MG ZR driven by Wisdom crashed into the wall of a local beauty salon, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Wisdom suffered serious life-changing injuries himself along with his two passengers who were both aged 15.

PC Christopher Oliver-Jones of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: ‘This collision had a serious impact, not only on the casualties, which included the driver himself, but also on the local community and in particular the local business who has suffered considerable loss due to the damage caused to their property.

‘The jail sentence sends out a strong message that drivers will be held accountable for their actions and there are serious consequences for careless driving and driving whilst disqualified’.
