Education: Record number of Folkestone Academy sixth form students gain places at university

Folkestone Academy students at the Glassworks Sixth Form Centre celebrated their success in today’s A-Level and BTEC results with a record number gaining places to study at university

 



Andrew Milliken, Head of School commented: "Folkestone Academy is delighted that the hard work of students and staff has yet again produced another excellent set of results.

"We are confident that our students are now equipped with the qualifications, skills and experiences needed to continue their studies at university or to successfully enter the workplace. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in the future.”

There were particularly strong performances in A Level French, A Level Culture & Communication, A Level Fine Art, A Level Textiles and A Level Graphics.

Results in BTEC qualifications were consistently strong, with the vast majority of grades awarded Distinction* or Distinction.



Notable successes included Scott Broom, pictured above,  who achieved an A*in A Level Geography, a C in A Level Maths, a Distinction* in BTEC Business and a Distinction* in BTEC ICT.

Scott is off to study Accounting and Finance, with a year in Business at Royal Holloway University in London.



Abigail Fitzgerald, pictured above, achieved an A in A Level Fine Art, an A in A Level Textiles and a C in A Level Photography. She if off to study Fine Art at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.



Orieshia Thomas, pictured above, achieved a B in A Level English Literature, a Distinction* in BTEC Business and a Triple Distinction* in BTEC Performing Arts.

She has a deferred entry to study Theatre and Performance with Creative Writing at the University of Surrey, starting next year.

This year, over 70 students have gained places at university, a record number for The Glassworks, the vast majority achieving entry to their first-choice course. [4]
