On Sunday, the final Folkestone Festivals Leas Bandstand concert of the season was held alongside an additional double birthday bash for two of the organisers.

Festivals organiser for many years, and former Town Centre manager, John Barber will shortly mark his 70th birthday and long standing assistant, Charlie Clayton's 20th birthday and departure for Portsmouth University for a Business Studies course made it a double celebration at the bandstand.

Pictures of Charlie's exploits with Folkestone Festivals, including visits to Boulogne, over the last few years were dotted around the site alongside cakes and presents whilst John Barber was presented with early birthday gifts and sashes by Dan Gurung and wife from the local Nepalese community.

During the bandstand concert, the City of Canterbury band gave a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday during the interval; and a comedian had been hired to perform for the gathering.

Folkestone Festivals will be planning the 2020 Leas Bandstand performances shortly; and in the meantime their monthly Art Markets continue on the last Friday of the month in Bouverie Place, and The Mariners Cake Off competition is due to be held at the end of September on The Stade by the Fishmarket.
