The death has been announced of Thanet District and Ramsgate Councillor Peter Campbell – pictured above.
Councillor Campbell first became a Thanet District Councillor in 2007 and served the Central Harbour ward in Ramsgate for 14 years.
During his time with the council, Cllr Campbell was the Chair and Vice Chair of many committees and was a highly valued and prominent member of the Overview and Scrutiny Panel.
Cllr Campbell was also recently chair of Ramsgate Town Council, to which he was elected for the first time in 2011.
Cllr Rick Everitt, Leader of Thanet District Council said: “Peter had been a Labour councillor for Central Harbour ward in Ramsgate since 2007 and he absolutely loved the role. In return he gained the respect and affection of officers and elected members across the council chamber for his absolute dedication to serving residents.

“He was still answering their emails from his sickbed at the end.
“Peter kept a high profile in the town and was knowledgeable, fearless and often very funny. To me he was a very good friend and a smart political adviser. He never engaged in factionalism or wasted time on internal arguments. The local Labour party and the district and town councils will miss him terribly, as will my partner Corinna and I on a personal level.”
Chief Executive, Madeline Homer said: “Peter was the epitome of a local councillor, the Council has sadly lost an honourable man. I will miss him.”
