The Port of Dover has unveiled a brand new apprenticeship scheme with 11 vacancies available across a diverse range of areas throughout its business, aiming to attract and nurture local talent with specialist skills and ideas.
The Port has been working closely with its community partners including schools and colleges in the area to broaden the network of these apprenticeships and attract the best potential for engineering, finance, marine, hr, marina, marketing and procurement roles.
Emma Williams, Head of Human Resources at the Port of Dover said: “As one of the leading ports in the world, and a major employer in the South East, we thrive on the ability, skill, knowledge and technical expertise of our fantastic people.
“Our workforce is a critical factor in our success and this has never been more apparent than the resilience and determination shown by our people to keep the Port open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These apprenticeships will inspire the next generation of local experts to come on board and help us continue to provide a Port for the future. We are really excited to start working with them.”
The Port of Dover is recognised as Europe’s busiest and most successful ferry port and to have thriving cruise, cargo and marina businesses. With recruitment becoming more challenging in certain specialist roles, the apprenticeship scheme will combine learning support with strong mentoring to help transition talent into future established positions.
