A repeat sex offender has been jailed after he was found in possession of indecent images.

Declan Adams denied the offences and said the images must have got onto his laptop after he found SD cards discarded in a box in Chatham and he wanted to see what was on them.

The images and videos were found by officers during a routine visit to his address, he had images on his laptop which ranged from Category A, the most serious, to Category C.

The 47-year-old was jailed for four years at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 22 November 2021 after a jury found him guilty of six charges of possessing indecent photographs of children.

Adams, of Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, did admit to breaching a Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO) which was in place due to previous offending. He has now been handed a new order, which will come into effect upon his release.

Investigating officer PC Emma Willson said: ‘Adams tried to claim he was not responsible for these images and videos.

‘He was being closely monitored by officers due to previous offending and it was through this monitoring that this offending came to light.

‘Adams’ custodial sentence is justified, and I hope it acts as a deterrent to others.’
