Four suspects have been arrested by a proactive police patrol close to the scene of a burglary in Chatham.

At around 7.30pm on Tuesday 30 November 2021, officers were in Vale Drive when they noticed three men appearing to act suspiciously as they walked towards a parked BMW X5.

The officers discovered that a property in the road had been broken into and the men were detained nearby.

A fourth suspect was later arrested who had been inside the BMW, and which left the scene but was located in Secretan Road, Rochester.

Second burglary linked  

All four were charged with burglary and appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 December.

They were further charged in connection with a second burglary, which was also reported to have taken place on 30 November at an address in Ashcroft Road, Wainscott.

A 43-year-old man from Hoo was remanded by the court into custody.

Conditional bail was granted to a man, aged 36, from Pinner, Middlesex; a man aged 30, from Haringey, London; and a man, aged 33, from Brent, Greater London.

The next hearing for all four men will be at Maidstone Crown Court on 6 January 2022.
