A moped was returned to its rightful owner thanks to two off-duty police officers who spotted something suspicious in Rochester.
On Wednesday 1 December 2021 at around 11.30pm, the police constables who were travelling in a car saw two people pushing a moped along the street in High Halstow and suspected the vehicle may have been stolen.
They followed the suspects to Christmas Lane and called 999 to report the incident. The moped was identified as stolen and patrols attended the area where two 17-year-olds, who matched the description provided, tried to run from police.
Equipped to steal
The teenagers were caught up with on foot and arrested on suspicion of theft. Items including screwdrivers, a spanner, metal wire, a balaclava and gloves were found discarded nearby and they were both also arrested for going equipped to steal.
The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner and the two teenagers, a boy and girl from Rochester, were detained in custody. They have since been released pending further investigation.
