A teenage boy has been charged and remanded in custody following a knifepoint robbery in Chatham.

The incident is alleged to have taken place between 9.10am and 9.20am on Monday 10 January 2022, as the victim was riding a scooter in Maida Road.

The victim, aged 17, is reported to have been approached by a stranger before threats were made to hand over the scooter.

The offender is said to have been carrying a knife which was tucked into his waistband and made repeated threats to stab the victim, whose jacket was also stolen.

Arrested and charged

A Kent Police investigation led to the identification of a suspect and on Tuesday 11 January officers arrested a 17-year-old boy from Chatham. He was charged with robbery and with possessing a knife in a public place.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 12 January and was remanded in custody.

His next hearing will be at the same court on Monday 17 January.
