A prolific thief who targeted local shops in Edenbridge has been jailed.

Between 23 November and 20 December 2021Brenda Rossiter stole items including foodstuffs and alcohol from stores in the High Street, Fircroft Way and Mont St Aignan Way.

On Thursday 13 January 2022, officers arrested 33-year-old Rossiter on suspicion of shoplifting. She was later charged with four counts of theft.

Jailed

Rossiter, from Edenbridge, pleaded guilty before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 14 January and was sentenced to 140 days’ imprisonment. The period in jail includes the activation of a suspended sentence.

Investigating officer, PC Gareth Salter, said: ‘Residents in Edenbridge rely on their local shops, particularly the elderly and those without transport to travel to larger towns.
‘By targeting these businesses, thieves have an impact on their profits and their ability to continue operating. This criminal should be thoroughly ashamed of her conduct.’
