Community groups across the district planning to celebrate HM The Queen’s 70 years on the throne are invited to apply for a Platinum Jubilee Community Grant from Dover District Council, as communities finalise their preparations for this historic occasion.

All 32 members of DDC have been allocated £500 to support events in their wards, as the country comes together to mark the Platinum Jubilee. To apply for a grant, please contact your local district councillor and once approved complete an online application.

A whole range of local and community events are due to take place across the district from 2-5 June.  DDC has been notified of 36 street parties across the district.

Alongside the Councillors’ Platinum Jubilee Community Grant Scheme, DDC is also marking the occasion with initiatives including a tree planning programme as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy project. A weekend of free family fun activities is planned at the Maison Dieu in Dover, where conservation experts will be restoring a royal portrait from the collection of paintings held in the Maison Dieu, along with an exhibition of Dover’s royal connections and how the coronation was celebrated in 1953.

Major events organised by the local community include:

  • 2-5 June – Jubilee Festival, (Delf Street, Sandwich)
  • 4 June – Jubilee Party on the Green, (Walmer)
