A suspect has been charged following a serious assault in Hythe.

At around 11.20pm on Friday 27 May 2022, an altercation took place in the garden of a pub in Seabrook Road.

During the incident, a man was reportedly struck to the face and sustained a head injury.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was flown to a London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Charge

Enquiries by Kent Police led to a suspect being arrested in Folkestone around an hour after the alleged offence.

Mathew Chapman, of Kent Road, Folkestone, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 33-year-old appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday 30 May and was bailed to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 27 June.
