Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone

A suspect has been charged with multiple offences following an alleged assault at a hotel in Folkestone.

Kent Police was contacted on the morning of Saturday 16 July 2022 following a report that a man had assaulted a woman at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Marine Parade.

Officers went to the hotel and it was alleged that the man had also put pressure on the woman to withdraw allegations she had previously made against him.

Arrest and charges

Following an investigation by Folkestone’s Vulnerability Investigation Team, a man was arrested three days later in the Dartford area.

Gavin Hamilton has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, witness intimidation, criminal damage and two counts of assault.

The 42-year-old, of High Street, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, appeared before West Kent Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 20 July and was remanded in custody to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday 17 August.
