Quick-time enquiries by officers have led to two burglary suspects being arrested and charged just hours after a house was broken into in Rochester.

The victim, who lives in Banning Street, woke up at 3am on Monday 22 August 2022 and found her front door open. Having checked around, she closed the door and went back to sleep.

Bank cards used in a nearby shop

At 5.36am the woman was notified that one of her bank cards had been used in a nearby shop. She then noticed her purse was missing.

A short time later she was notified that a second bank card had been used in another shop nearby.

The burglary was reported to Kent Police at 5.43am. Later that morning, officers arrested two suspects.

Rebecca Small, 34, and Jack Elliott, 32, both of Gill Avenue, Wainscott, appeared in Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 23 August each charged with one count of burglary and two counts of fraud.

They were bailed with conditions and are due to appear before the same court on Wednesday 5 October.
