Sandgate beach in the summer of 2022

With temperatures in Kent nudging up to 23C over the last few days, October is far from being a record breaking month.

The record UK temperature for the month was set 11-years-ago when the mercury was tantalisingly close to 30 degrees Celsius.

Gravesend in north Kent is credited with the record for the highest temperature recorded in October 2011 when it reached 29.9C (85.8F) on the 1st of the month.

The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK was 40.3 degrees Celsius (104.5F) measured on July 19, 2022 at Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
