Three men have been charged with drink driving after being stopped as part of a proactive operation in Medway.

Nearly 60 vehicles stopped

On Friday 30 December 2022 officers were in New Road, Chatham, at the junction of Fort Pitt Hill, Rochester, where they stopped nearly 60 vehicles.

Motorists were stopped by dedicated officers from Medway’s Community Policing Team, Local Policing Team and Special Constables from the Roads Policing Unit.

During the roadside checks three men were stopped separately in New Road, Chatham, where they were each arrested on suspicion of drink driving and were each later charged.

During the operation 10 vehicles were issued with Traffic Offence Reports for various offences including drivers not wearing seatbelts and driving without insurance.

Four vehicles were also seized for being driven without insurance.

Drivers for two vehicles were also issued with a defect rectification form, requiring them to ensure the issue was fixed and provide proof it had been done.

Officers also searched three vehicles under the Misuse of Drugs Act and one cannabis warning was issued and a small seizure of cannabis was made.

• A man aged 42, from Rochester was charged with drink driving. He was bailed upon charge and is due to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 24 January 2023.

• A man aged 37, also from, Rochester, was charged with drink driving. He was bailed to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 1 February.

• A 40-year-old-man from Gillingham, was charged with drink driving. He was bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 24 January 2023.
