A teenager has been jailed after stabbing a boy in Gillingham.
On 16 June 2022, the 17-year-old victim was walking in Railway Street where he was approached by Ahmed Mobarat.
Mobarat has previously sent offensive messages to the victim online and continued this abuse in person.
Stabbed
After a brief altercation, the victim walked away but was followed by Mobarat who stabbed him in the abdomen.
Kent Police was called to the town’s train station where the victim had sought assistance and was being treated by South East Coast Ambulance Service. He was taken to a London hospital for further medical attention.
Officers went to an address in Byron Road where Mobarat was arrested. They also seized a knife with traces of blood on the blade.
Charged
Mobarat was later charged with unlawful wounding and possessing a bladed weapon in a public place.
The 18-year-old pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and on Tuesday 31 January 2023 was sentenced to a total of two years’ imprisonment.
Investigating officer, PC Catherine Barker, said: ‘This was an unprovoked assault and it was only by chance the victim did not suffer a fatal injury. This is an example of the very serious consequences that await young men who foolishly choose to carry and then use a knife.
‘A teenage criminal is now starting a prison sentence while his victim tries to rebuild his life after an appalling injury. My advice is to think again if you consider taking a weapon into a public place – you are likely to spend a number of years of your life behind bars.’
