An event to celebrate International Women’s Day is taking place on Sunday 5 March aimed at raising awareness over women’s safety.

A ‘Reclaim these Streets’ march will start off in Victoria Park at the fountain at 3pm led by the Mayor, Cllr Jenny Webb. The march will go through the town centre and make its way to the Coachworks, where there will be speeches and live music from 3.30pm to 5pm.

Speakers from Ukraine and Iran will follow a mayoral address as well as a speech from Rev. Cathy Aldis-Saunders along with songs from RoseGold and Georgia-Jane and music from ‘Women of the World’.

Organiser Cllr. Lyn Suddards said: “This important event will make a stand for women’s safety in Ashford and in solidarity with women across the world. Everyone is welcome and it is also an opportunity for men to show their support for us too.

Celebrating women across Ashford

“With a range of speakers and music the Coachworks bar will be open and food available so it promises to be an inspirational afternoon celebrating women across Ashford and the world over.”

Cllr Jenny Webb said: “We are very lucky to be able to have the freedom to highlight women and their rights in this country and I feel honoured to lead the march and be a part of this celebratory event.”
