Words and pictures by Ray Duff – Mourners gathered at the end of the Stade, Folkestone on Friday evening to hold a vigil for the murdered transgender teenager Brianna Ghey.
Brianna had died after suffering multiple stab wounds at Culcheth Linear Park, in Warrington, Cheshire during the afternoon of 11 February.
The gathering included many trans people, their families, friends and allies.
Since the stabbing many vigils, large and small have taken place across Britain and beyond, calling for an end to transphobia of any kind.
Many of those attending the Folkestone vigil lit candles in memory of the teenager and listened to many moving speeches by local trans people and their allies.
Many then visited a nearby safe space to speak about their feelings, about Brianna and their own situations as well as helping to work for a better future.
