A violent storm caused a major incident at Swanley Shopping Centre on Wednesday afternoon, as scaffolding from a nearby construction site collapsed in the gusty winds. Shoppers were shocked and scared as they watched scaffolding crash down on the pavement.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) arrived at the scene just after 3.30 pm on 27 December with four fire engines, a height vehicle, and a technical rescue unit.

Crews helped to evacuate shoppers and made the area safe, before handing duty of care over to the landowner just after 7.30pm

There were no reported injuries.
