On Thursday 25 April 2024, a patrol responding to a report of a road traffic collision stopped to check a Ford Transit van in Castle View Road. It is alleged two constables were then assaulted before the occupant of the vehicle left the scene on foot.
A suspect of no fixed address was subsequently found near Central Road and arrested. He was later charged by investigators from the Medway Victim Based Crime Team, with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, failing to provide a specimen of breath for a breath test, failing to provide a sample for a drug test whilst in custody and theft of alcohol from a supermarket in Gravesend.
The 36-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was conditionally bailed to a hearing at the same court on Friday 19 July.
