Medway Council Leader Vince Maple has spoken out following incidents of disorder around the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday 7 August, Cllr Maple said:

“In recent days we have seen unacceptable behaviour carried out across the country by individuals who have caused damage through disorder, costing communities a huge amount in clean up and damage repairs.

“In Medway, we celebrate communities of different backgrounds and faiths and take pride in the fact we live peacefully and positively side by side. Medway is a safe place to live, work, learn and visit.

“We remain committed to working with our partners from faith groups, community groups, charities, businesses, trade unions and all Medway residents to tackle all forms of hate crime.

“We value and appreciate the partnership working with Kent Police.

“Medway is no place for hate.”

Kent Police reported their officers were in attendance in the Medway Towns and arrested a total of just five people over the course of yesterday evening, 7 August 2024.
