Dover District Council

The Labour Group at Dover District Council is facing a deepening crisis following the resignation of a second councillor within a week. This latest departure has exposed growing internal divisions and a reportedly toxic environment within the party.

The resignations have significantly weakened the Labour Group’s position on the council, leaving them with a minority of 15 out of 32 seats. This shift in power dynamics has led to questions about the party’s ability to effectively govern the district.

Councillor Trevor Bartlett, Leader of the Conservative Group, criticized the Labour Group, stating,

“The resignation of two councillors in such a short period reflects a party plagued by internal divisions and led by personalities more focused on internal squabbles than serving the needs of our residents. The Conservative Group remains dedicated to delivering positive outcomes for the people of Dover District and providing strong, stable leadership.”

The Labour Group has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the recent resignations.
