A significant fire broke out at a block of flats on Crabble Road in Dover in the early hours of this morning, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to the scene at approximately 1:10 AM today, 20 April 2025 and have been working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

A substantial deployment of resources, including 12 fire engines and two height vehicles, was sent to tackle the incident. Firefighters, supported by the KFRS Technical Rescue team, are continuing their efforts to fully extinguish the fire.

Upon arrival at the scene, crews immediately began the evacuation of all 42 flats within the affected building. KFRS has confirmed that all residents have been safely accounted for.

Dover District Council is now actively involved in providing crucial support to those displaced by the fire, including the arrangement of emergency accommodation.

The KFRS Volunteer Response Team also attended the scene, offering vital welfare support to the firefighting crews and providing assistance to the evacuated residents during this challenging time. Two individuals were assessed at the scene by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) for smoke inhalation.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway.

Update at 4:30pm on 20 April: 

Twelve fire engines and a height vehicle remain at the scene of a fire at a block of flats on Crabble Road, Dover. The number of fire engines will be reduced shortly, but crews will remain on site overnight. Firefighters are systematically working through the building to ensure all hotspots are fully dampened down. Kent Police are also at the scene, but the cause of the fire is not yet known.
