A Dorking woman has been fined £480 after waste she gave to an unregistered collector was later found dumped in Whitstable. Jodie Tyson, 29, pleaded guilty last Thursday (June 12) at Margate Magistrates’ Court to failing in her duty of care to ensure her waste was disposed of legally.
The court heard that in April 2023, a mix of materials was fly-tipped on Mole Hill Road in Whitstable. Canterbury City Council Environmental Crime Officers investigated and found evidence linking the dumped waste to Ms. Tyson.
Officers attempted to interview Ms. Tyson, but she failed to cooperate and subsequently did not pay a fixed penalty notice issued to her.
At her court appearance via video link, Ms. Tyson was fined £200, along with an £80 surcharge and £200 to cover the council’s prosecution costs, totalling £480.
