Canterbury saw a significant emergency response on Saturday afternoon after an accidental kitchen fire broke out on Giles Lane. The incident, believed to be caused by unattended cooking, saw five fire engines and specialist equipment battle to bring it under control.
The alarm was raised at 2:23 PM, drawing a joint response from Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Police, and SECAmb. Fire crews used main and hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze, which was concluded just before 5:00 PM. Crucially, no one was hurt in the incident.
Following their work, a KFRS spokesperson issued a strong public safety plea: “We are reminding everyone to ‘keep looking while you’re cooking’ and to avoid distractions when using flame and heat in the kitchen!”
The warning serves as a crucial reminder that a moment’s distraction can lead to a serious emergency.
