Don’t let this happen to you! A recent chimney fire in Snowdown, near Dover, serves as a serious reminder about fire safety as the weather gets colder.
On Friday, October 31, 2025, fire crews rushed to an incident on Aylesham Road. Two fire engines and a height vehicle were needed, using specialized chimney gear and hose reel jets to put out the blaze that lasted over two hours. The good news is that no one was hurt, but the cause is believed to be accidental, directly linked to a dangerous build-up of soot inside the chimney.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is urging all residents to:
- Sweep Your Chimney Regularly: Ensure your chimney is thoroughly and routinely swept to remove fire-causing soot.
- Inspect After Long Periods of Disuse: Especially when firing up your chimney after a long break, check for debris like loose bricks or old bird nests that can easily ignite and cause a flue fire.
A clean chimney is a safe chimney. Take action now to prevent a devastating fire in your home.
