A tragic flat fire on Westgate Bay Avenue early Friday morning resulted in the death of one individual and left another requiring hospitalization, emergency services have confirmed.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) crews were called to the scene at approximately 5:55 AM on Friday, December 12, 2025, following reports of a fire within a residential flat. Five fire engines and a specialized height vehicle were deployed to the location in Westgate on Sea, near Thanet. Firefighters, utilizing breathing apparatus, brought the blaze under control using high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets. Operations were officially declared complete at 10:11 AM.
In a statement, KFRS confirmed the fatality. “Sadly, one person died,” the service reported. “Another person was taken to hospital for further medical treatment.” The condition of the hospitalized individual has not been released. Emergency responders were supported at the scene by partner agencies, including Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
The cause of the fatal fire is currently unknown. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now underway, KFRS confirmed.
