A knife-wielding criminal has been jailed for three years after attacking a man in a Chatham shop.

It’s reported Michael Tucker had a grudge against the victim following a previous incident and brandished the weapon when he saw him at the store in Ordnance Street on 19 August 2025. Tucker’s target successfully defended himself but sustained a laceration to his hand during the confrontation.

The 59-year-old was arrested the following day and charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, and threatening a person with an offensive weapon.

Tucker, from Chatham, admitted to all three charges and was jailed for 37 months at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 16 February 2026. A restraining order was also imposed for five years.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Emily Matthews said:

‘Michael Tucker has shown himself to be a violent person who shows no concern in attacking people spontaneously and in a public place.

‘The victim could have suffered even worse injuries had he not been able to defend himself. The community is safer now that Tucker is behind bars.’
