A dangerous driver has been jailed after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in Dartford.

Officers saw Kane Dugbo driving a Mercedes near the Princes Road interchange at around 3am on 26 September 2023 and needed him to stop as the vehicle had been of interest to police on a previous occasion.

Dugbo drove off at twice the speed limit, reaching 80 miles per hour in a pursuit which saw his car travel onto the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoid other motorists.

It ended when the vehicle collided with roadside barriers and came to a stop in an overgrown field near Watling Street.

Dugbo had fled the scene on foot and a search by patrols was unsuccessful. They were subsequently able to identify Dugbo as the driver through DNA found on the airbag which had activated when the car struck the barrier.

The 35-year-old was charged and later pleaded guilty at a Maidstone Crown Court to dangerous driving.

On Monday 23 February, Dugbo, from Strood was jailed for 18 months. He was also disqualified from driving for 21 months and will then need to pass an extended driving test.

Investigating officer PC Damien Edwards said:

‘Dugbo’s reckless driving could have caused serious injury to fellow motorists and the pursuing officers. Solid investigative work by our team allowed us to identify him despite his having left the scene. This case highlights that even if you flee, your actions will catch up with you in time.’
