FOLKESTONE — A major emergency response in the Cherry Garden Lane area saw crews battle a fierce blaze within a derelict building. The sky over Folkestone has been thick with acrid smoke since the fire broke out earlier this afternoon, Friday, March 13.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three fire engines and a specialized height vehicle to the scene. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, are currently using high-pressure main jets to beat back the flames from both the ground and above.

Due to the heavy volume of smoke drifting across the neighborhood, officials issued an immediate advisory for everyone living, working, or commuting near Cherry Garden Lane:

  • Seal Your Home: Close all windows and doors immediately.
  • Stay Clear: Avoid the immediate vicinity to allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access.
  • Spread the Word: Please check on neighbours or elderly relatives in the area who may not be online to ensure they are aware of the smoke hazard.

UPDATE 8.30pm 13 March 2026

Crews are no longer advising those living or working near Cherry Garden Lane in Folkestone to keep windows and doors closed. Firefighting operations at the derelict building are now complete.
