A major emergency response descended upon Winstanley Road in Sheerness yesterday evening as a dramatic house fire broke out, drawing a large presence from local emergency services. Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene shortly before 8:00 PM on Sunday, 5 April, 2026, deploying seven fire engines to contain the escalating flames.

Firefighters equipped with specialized breathing apparatus braved the smoke-filled structure to tackle the seat of the fire. Crews utilized a combination of high-pressure hose reel jets and heavy-duty main jets to suppress the blaze and prevent it from spreading further into the residential terrace.

The operation required a coordinated effort across multiple agencies, with Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service providing critical support on the ground. As a safety measure, several neighbouring properties were evacuated, forcing residents into the street while crews worked to stabilize the area. To assist those displaced by the emergency, the KFRS Volunteer Response Team remained on-site throughout the evening to provide emotional and practical support to affected families.

Fortunately, officials confirmed that there were no reported injuries during the incident. While the fire has been extinguished, investigators have yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze, and an inquiry into the origins of the fire is expected to continue.
