FAVERSHAM — Firefighters were called out to two separate property fires in Faversham during the early hours of Saturday morning, 27 June, after severe thunderstorms triggered lightning strikes on residential roofs.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was first alerted at 3:31 am to reports of a fire in the loft space of a house on Newton Road. Two fire engines were quickly dispatched to the scene in the Swale district. Emergency crews equipped with breathing apparatus entered the property and successfully extinguished the flames using high-pressure hose reel jets. Crews managed to bring the incident to a close by 4:26 am, and no injuries were reported.
Just minutes later, at 3:39 am, emergency services received a second call to a more substantial house fire on Uplees Road. Four fire engines attended the second blaze. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus utilized specialized fog spikes and hose main jets to suppress the flames before checking the structure to ensure no remaining hotspots could reignite.
The Kent Fire and Rescue Service Volunteer Response Team was also deployed to the Uplees Road incident to provide immediate support and assistance to the displaced residents. Officials confirmed that, fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported at either location.
