A major emergency response was triggered in Herne Bay yesterday evening, 1 July, after a telecommunications mast was suddenly engulfed in flames, threatening local infrastructure.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Margate Road in Broomfield just after 6:30 pm following panicked reports of a towering inferno.
Four fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were urgently deployed to tackle the blaze. Firefighters arriving at the scene faced a fierce column of flames and thick smoke originating from the vital telecoms structure. Crews immediately went to work utilizing specialised foam and powerful high-pressure main jets to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading further into the surrounding area.
The intense firefighting operation lasted for nearly four hours, with teams successfully bringing the situation under control and extinguishing the final remnants of the blaze by 10:22 pm.
Miraculously, officials have confirmed that no injuries were reported during the dramatic incident. However, the exact cause of the sudden and destructive fire remains completely unknown, and an investigation into the origin of the blaze is expected to follow.
