Ten fire engines rushed to an industrial estate in Kent on Monday evening after a ferocious blaze broke out inside a commercial premises in Larkfield, sending toxic clouds of thick smoke billowing across the region.
Emergency services were alerted to the inferno at Westmead, near Aylesford, at 19:49 on Monday 17 August 2026. As flames engulfed the structure, firefighters equipped with specialised breathing apparatus and heavy-duty hose main jets launched an aggressive attack to contain the escalating situation.
The sheer volume of choking black smoke rising from the burning building prompted emergency officials to issue an urgent public warning, urging local residents and commuters travelling through the Tonbridge and Malling district to immediately seal all doors and windows to avoid inhaling hazardous fumes.
Following hours of intense firefighting efforts, crews successfully wrestled the main body of the blaze under control. By 22:37, incident commanders confirmed significant progress had been made using hose reel jets and main jets, allowing the heavy emergency presence to be safely scaled back to four fire engines.
The local safety warnings have since been stood down, though firefighters remain at the scene to damp down hot spots and ensure the structural safety of the site. Investigations into the cause of the destructive outbreak are expected to begin once the area is fully secured.
