More than 3,000 packets of illicit, untaxed cigarettes have been confiscated from a store in Paddock Wood during a joint law enforcement operation.
Local police officers, alongside representatives from Kent Trading Standards, executed a search warrant at a commercial premises on Commercial Road following reports that unregulated tobacco was being sold inside. During the search, officers uncovered thousands of packets hidden within concealed storage areas and makeshift hides built into the property.
A 34-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested at the scene in connection with the haul. He has since been released on bail until 1 December 2026 while further inquiries continue.
Senior investigating officers highlighted that the illegal tobacco trade poses severe public health risks while directly undercutting legitimate, tax-paying businesses. Authorities confirmed that proactive operations targeting the supply of black-market goods across the county will remain a ongoing priority.
