Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Sherwood Road in Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday evening, 12 August 2026, following reports of a garden fire that quickly spread out of control.
Emergency crews received the call at 21:28 after a tree caught alight and the flames rapidly swept into neighbouring timber fences. One fire engine was dispatched to the scene, where firefighters used a high-pressure hose reel jet to thoroughly dampen down the charred greenery and boundary walls after the main body of the fire had been largely extinguished prior to their arrival.
One person sustained minor burns as a result of the blaze.
Following an initial assessment at the scene, fire service investigators confirmed that the incident is believed to have been caused accidentally when a firework accidentally ignited dry garden foliage.
