Head over to Maidstone Museum this October half term for arts and crafts for the kids.

From Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 October children from 4 to 11 years can take part in supervised craft sessions and make an Egyptian inspired head dress, necklace and wrist cuffs, or a scarab beetle and pyramid and even an Egyptian mummy model complete with its own King Tut style death mask. Sessions are only £3 and last from 30 to 50 minutes and are running between 10.30am and 2.30pm, to book one please visit: https://museum.maidstone.gov.uk/whats-on/events/october-half-term-2021/

Those children aged 7 to 11 years interested in the fascinating ancient Egyptian or Japanese objects in the Museum’s collections and love to get creative can come along for a whole day and gain an Arts Award for their efforts. Between Monday 25 to Fri 29 October for £30 per child from 9am to 3.30pm young people can go behind the scenes with the curators and try out different art activities inspired by the museum’s fantastic collections. Children will receive a Museum certificate of participation on the day. To book a day please visit:  https://museum.maidstone.gov.uk/whats-on/events/history-art-days/

Cllr Martin Round, Chair of the Economic Regeneration and Leisure Committee said: “We are so lucky to have Maidstone Museum and all the fascinating artefacts it holds; it is a truly wonderful place. Hopefully these exciting sessions will spark an interest in history and culture in our children and future generations, they really are lots of fun.”

Arts Awards are a great opportunity for children and young people to learn more about the arts and artists and to try out different art forms. Trinity College London moderates the awards. The Learning Team at Maidstone Museum are trained to assess the Discover Arts Award and once the day is complete will send off for the official Discover Arts Award Certificate from Trinity which can take six to eight weeks to arrive.
