Firefighters are currently on the scene of a significant blaze at a derelict building near Victoria Park and Ashford town centre. Kent Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at 20:34 on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and has dispatched a substantial response to bring the situation under control.

Six fire engines are presently engaged in firefighting operations, supported by specialized equipment including a bulk water carrier and a height vehicle. Because of the heavy smoke drifting from the site, officials are advising anyone living or traveling in the vicinity of the town centre to avoid the area entirely. Residents in the path of the smoke are strongly encouraged to keep their windows and doors firmly closed as a precaution.

Crews remain on-site working to extinguish the flames and mitigate the impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Members of the public are asked to share this warning with friends and family in the Ashford area who may not have access to digital updates to ensure they are aware of the safety guidance.

Update at 6.00am on 5 March :

People living or travelling near Victoria park and Ashford town centre are no longer advised to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.

However please be aware if you’re visiting Ashford town centre there maybe traffic congestion.
Three fire engines and a height vehicle remain on site to continue extinguishing the fire.
