Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to a residential property on Queens Avenue yesterday afternoon 5 April, after reports emerged of smoke billowing from a house. Two fire engines arrived on the scene at 15:15.

Upon arrival, crews discovered that the smoke was originating from the roof area. To ensure the fire was fully extinguished and had not spread through the internal structure, firefighters cut away sections of the roof to access and dampen down the affected materials using fire buckets and specialized equipment.

The incident was successfully brought under control and the scene was cleared by 16:01. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the occupants or the attending crews.

Investigating officers believe the fire was accidental and caused by a heat gun being used externally. It appears the heat transferred to the roofing structure during maintenance work, leading to the smoke that alerted neighbours.

Safety Note: Kent Fire and Rescue Service reminds residents to exercise extreme caution when using heat tools on building exteriors, as heat can easily transfer to hidden combustible materials within walls or roof voids.
