The Churchill School in Hawkinge has officially been placed in the top 1% of schools worldwide for its outdoor play provision after securing the highly coveted OPAL Platinum Accreditation.
Following a rigorous final assessment by Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL), the school earned the top-tier recognition after it spent several years completely transforming its grounds. The playground has been redesigned into a dynamic learning and play environment equipped for imaginative play, den building, construction, mud and water activities, live performance, music, and quiet reflection. School leaders have reported a remarkable positive impact on pupils’ overall well-being, confidence, friendships, and daily enthusiasm for school life.
This prestigious milestone was made possible through a collaborative community effort, with staff, pupils, and families working alongside local businesses, volunteers, and organisations who donated essential time, materials, and expertise to bring the vision to life.
To mark the occasion, The Churchill School will host an official OPAL Platinum Award Celebration at 11:00am on Monday 20th July, where the community will gather as the school formally receives its Platinum plaque.
